Why isn’t anyone aware and talking about this ?!
Two days ago, while in my free slot I was sitting somewhere in TIP scrolling randomly through Internet trying to kill some time, when I stumbled upon something, something terrifying, something that actually made me scared of being there. and for the first time in my life ,I felt scared of being in TIP.
Here is what the headlines of Aaj news said :
“KARACHI: Around 12 terrorists including Al-Qaeda Sub-Continent leader have been killed on Monday in police encounter in Karachi”
The headline off course sounds like something normal for us, the karachiites as these things have become norm for us but then I read the details and it got me thinking and worried as it said:
“The police encounter took place in Pipri and Gadap area of the city. Eight terrorists were killed in Pipri and four others in Gadap. The other terrorists included members of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and other banned outfits as well, A large number of weapons were recovered from their possession”
I didn’t want to believe this, so I did my own research and as it turned out several other news agencies such as Dunya News, The express Tribune, News one and several others, seemed to be reporting the same thing.
I have linked all the news sources for you all to read and decide for yourself whether this article is a hoax/just an over exaggeration of the situation or is it actually something we all should seriously be worried about.
Just in case you didn’t know , the Pipri area is the one opposite to steel town i.e.it falls Inside 8 Kilometers radius of TIP, Considering the recent security threats to Schools, colleges and universities all over Pakistan , the fact that so many terrorists with such weaponry were found is extremely unsettling to me, In fact I actually salute the hostilities and who are actually able to eat, sleep and function normally in this situation.
We are all aware of the fact that the security of TIP is anything BUT ‘tight’.
We don’t even have fences/Barbed wires on our walls and our security guards are not armed, though when this semester started there was an official notification that said that these things are being installed guards are also currently being armed along with the security cameras being put up for surveillance but after three weeks there hasn’t been a noticeable change.
It also came to my knowledge that the very next day after all this happened, a very senior official, who doesn’t usually visit the hostel, went there in the morning and advised the students to lock their doors properly at nights and recite ‘charon qul’ before sleeping, THAT ladies and gentlemen, is the best security measure we have to offer, though i do understand the helplessness,as providing immediate security to a 50 Acre land with the ‘financial constraints’ we have, is not an easy task, something has to be done as soon as humanly possible.
One more thing I would like to add is,I have known about this for past two days and I went back and forth with it, I wanted to tell people about it or write about it but a part of me felt it was wrong to do so,it felt like I would be the one creating panic among students, I asked the hostilities and it turned out they all knew about this since it happened,So it was only fair that others knew about it too, I chose to write this because I believe that we all have the right to know, every student deserves to know the risks and it is an individual’s choice if they are willing to take the risk or not.
