Textile Institute Entrepreneur Society (TIES)

By Bilal Saya, TMM3
I believe there is a vast gap between what we are taught and what happens in practical life in the textile industry of Pakistan. We are being taught all about textiles form spinning to weaving to non-woven and many more, certainly more than what people know in the industry but weAbstract Wallpapeassasars_00037 don’t get the chance to interact with people from the industry. We don’t know what people from the industry are currently focused on, what are their main concerns is it cheaper powergeneration or labour shortages or quality control in their respective fields like spinning, knitting etc. Product development is also a major concern like for example if a student wants to make running shoes like nike and addidas do. We know that the material used is mostly textiles but we don’t know how it is produced there are other numerous products like these which we can learn to produce with the knowledge that we are taught at TIP. Focusing on these issues and raising student awareness will be the main objective of the society.

So far these are the activities we plan on doing. We need your feedback and support to make it better.

1. Contact registry:
Contacting acquaintances of the students, alumni and asking them if they are willing to help in our individual concerns. Those of them who agree to help will be listed in the contact registry of the society with their respective field, like if some on in knitting has agreed to help then he will be listed under the knitting tab. The contact registry will be kept confidential and students will be informed if their acquaintances are being contacted.

2. Publishing:
Publishing news, events and other material relevant to the textile industry.

3. Independent helping forum:
Creating a mutual helping form by forming a group on facebook and by creating a website where students can post their problems related to what ever work they are doing like thesis or a business etc so that the individual who can help can contact them and solve their problems.

4. Competitions:
Participating in university level competitions YLES being the major one, also Intra University competitions will be held as well (like business plan competition)

5. Website:
Where students who have created products can display them on the website, also designers can create designs and concepts which they can display. Interested individuals (like someone from the industry) can purchase them if they like someone’s work.

6. Trade fair:
An event which will be held in TIP where students who have created products can put them up for sale.

7. Guest speakers:
Organizing Lectures related to entrepreneurship and lectures from successful entrepreneurs (preferably Texpert entrepreneurs)

For now “textile institute entrepreneur society” group has been made on facebook (all students are requested to join) but our plan is to create a website using which all of this will be possible. So students who have acquaintances related to web designing are requested to mail their contact info at tiesforum@hotmail.com.

  1. i can help you to make the idea more practicle and succesful in tip, since i was somehow running a club name as youth entrepreneur network, we can start by improving the mission statement and goal of forming this society, and by having a proper plan as to how we can transform tip’s insolent and cheap crowd into entrepreneurs.

if you interested do contact me take good care, then again great initiative.

  2. I like the idea and wish luck to all those involved directly and indirectly with this.

“transform tip’s insolent and cheap crowd into entrepreneurs.”

If you refer to the people around you with such disgracing and disrespectful words then I truly feel sorry for you… I just wonder that how were you managing that other club you were mentioning with such a disgraceful words?

  3. Initially our objective is not only to register the entire student body in TIES but also to get them actively participating. We can do a lot better with the knowledge that we are being taught and I think that everyone would agree with that. Also would like to emphasize that the success of this society depends entirely upon how actively the student body participates after all at the end of the day its you who benefit the most.

  4. I like the TIES concept..good good..

and yeah, not too happy with your choice of words Ahmad. Shitty people exist everywhere – TIP, CBM, Harvard, Rotaract, Australia..choose a range, you’ll find them there. Plus it’s a bit logically flawed. There are cheap and insolent entrepreneurs as well. So moral of the story, entrepreneurship is not linked to cheapness and insolence : P

But leaving the argument aside, being as accomplished as you are, you should contribute to TIES to make it prosper. Be that missing link in the chain. Cheers.
