I don’t know the details, but TIP has been attacked and a large portion of its equipment has been destroyed. Anybody who can provide more information, please do put it up on Quack! We need to know what actually happened.
TIP is located at Ghahgar Phatack on the National Highway, an area affected by the riots that followed the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

The hostel students were moved to the city campus earlier today (Saturday, December 29 ’07) from where they went to their homes or to stay with friends/relatives. The only people on campus now are the staff and guards that reside there.
The campus has suffered damage in the lab area and design studios. Machines and equipment in that area have also been damaged. The Eqbal Ahmad student’s centre has also been ransacked. It has been reported, however, that the mob did not enter the administrative block. The vehicles on campus have also been damaged. Some of the guards were hurt as they tried to resist the mob from breaking in but no other personnel have been injured. Mr. Gamini is also all right and is currently at a friend’s house in Karachi.
All examinations have been postponed till further notice which will be made available on the Textile Institute of Pakistan’s official website.
This update has been posted by Aasim Ahmed after telephonic accounts from Mr. Gamini Hathiringe and some of the students who were present on campus on Friday morning. Mr. Ali Hafeez Azmat has also confirmed the same.
actually i spoke to some of the host elite and they told me that a group of 20 people broke into tip earlier this morning around 11:30 and they broke every thing like the spinning , apparel ,designing lap ,classes and cafeteria and also took all the food with them plus they also trash sir gamni house and set his car on fire, its a good thing that they didn’t see hostel since, its kind of far from tip or else who knows what could they have done to the hostelite anyway i also heard sir umair called the rangers in order to shift the hostelite to somewhere safe like steel town but yet the rangers have not arrived.
before leaving the place one of these people told the guard that they will come back to trash down other things that they accidentally miss so people i believe the hostelites are danger therefore at best we can just pray for them.
I personally request sir umair to do something about this like calling the rangers once again or something as fast as he can.
Another info is that rangers arrived at the hostel and they have dropped some of the students in the city but yet most of the hostelites are still there….
well people are still stuck in hostel without food,tip is still in the process of shifting them some where safe,i don’t know what’s taking them so long..and i will like to mention here that some of the 2nd years who left the university yesterday at around six…have been through a miserable scenario…there car was burned down …but they all made it safely to their places till midnight..

I heard that the van has arrived and students will be shifted as soon as possible today. Sorry to say students are without water and one more thing u cant say that the PPP supporters did this they are Opportunist and just want to Terrorize. Shoot on sight orders are given to shoot these people. I talked to Sir Ali Hafeez, Sir Gamini who was in state of shock and Mr. Arif Hassan and everyone was like v r trying my best and I am sure everyone tried there best so please pray for save return of hostelites,TIP and Pakistan.
yes indeed, the students were in a miserable state yesterday….they had no lunch n 4 dinner they managed “aloo baengun” which due 2 hunger they found better than chkn.
the students r coming 2 the city office, escorted by rangers. it wuld b gr8 if v all culd offer sum of them 2 stay with us..till arrangements can b made.
i think that wuld be more helpful than just expressing how sad n sorry v are.

miss komal awan, if ali hakeem is more concern abt machine,., than 1st thing… wats wrong with it?? everyone has right thing at his own..everyone has different piorities… if u hv any objection with other’s mentalities it should have logical reasons… not just its sad…. and 2ndly, when hostel hites..are safe and sound by the grace of god… and amchine have been distroyed… how can u say any sensible man will feel sorrow abt wat?? those who have been saved? or abt wat has been distroyed??? do think over ot!! i think its.. normal human nature..to fel sorrow wat he has lost… and thankfull to god..to what HE saved from being harmed anyway! and in last ,, if we think just materialistically, presence of good machines in labs and teachers…i think is the reason for well reputation of tip!!
I don’t blame Ali for being upset at the machines. Shukar alhamdulillah the hostelites are ok, though we were extremely worried all the time they were stuck there. i tried to call a classfellow continuously but that awful phone woman kept telling me that all lines were “zaer e istimaal”. Question is, what can we do? Maybe when the situation improves, students could help clean up the mess? and i’m sure we can raise enough money to fix or replace a few things at least, like windows, doors and a few pcs and looms…i hope that most of the machines were insured.
What arrangements have been made for the hostelites lodgings? Does anybody know?

n everybody has been safely brought to the city campus from whr thy hv left for their places. campus ke tu ajeeb halat hai .. i will upload the video made on youtube raat tak ..
one more piece of information i like to share with every one that the hostelites who were left in city campus are about to shift to a hotel since, they didn’t had any relative in Karachi so that they could go at their place. therefore, tip has shift them to a hotel and now i believe all of them are moved to a safe place thank god.

they(the people wr around 100 that entered tip),and about 400 wr outside, were armed …every person had atleast a gun….many had 3 guns wid them…and our security gaurd didnt had a single gun….its pathetic…………thanks to allah that they didnt cm to the hostle….every window glass had been broken…cafeteria, designing studio, library……little bit fire in tuck shop also, but they lett of it quickly as the mob cleared…

All the things are very sad and another sad part part is some of the people here are pin-pointing others mistakes rather than providing some usefull info and are fighting over no issue..

Hmm I can’t express my feelings in words what I have observed during last 36 hours at hostel. Thanks GOD that no casualty happened and we all arrived to our destinations safely.
Lastly I would like to appreciate Bilal Gauri, Sheikh Uzair for their marvelous efforts and also would like thank Taha Altaf for making brunch arrangement and Rida for arranging ranger security….

well we tipians fight alot but what i was really happy to see was the way students reacted to such a situation. they were actually helping each other out which is quite strange when it come to tipians.. lol . so i guess we arent that bad after all .. like ahsan said i think those three people do deserve some applause ..

Well guys watever has happened, i think has been the worst case senario in the history of TIP. The Security problem was put into the notice of Higher management a 2 years back wen the THATTHA case happened. I think that this is a high time for the administration to look into this matter strongly and should focus on hiring some professional Armed Gaurds so that such a ghastly incident never happens again. May GOD bless TIP and all those associated with it.

plz ppl i was there too… it was really good to see how everyone was supporting each other at tht time as we were out of food n water. but here i donoo y u ppl are arguing over such trivial issues k kitne loog uni ayee the.. plz yaar thz is not the way to react…..btw all the hostelites are safe now.
What ever the case may be. Security was definitely an issue and the administration was aware of it, especially when robbers had entered into the grounds. The guards were helpless as well at that time. They were unarmed and could do little to stop anyone or anything.
Though in this case, I can hardly blame the administration. The sheer number of people that had entered the grounds especially the way they were armed, I don’t think anyone a except properly trained group of Rangers or Army men could’ve stopped that crowd!
i dont know y people here are not willing to highlite details about wht happened thr…. this secutiry pb is not a new issue…
ok i admit that thr were many people this time…but if 2 or 3 theives or any body enter tip, our guards are helpless which i think happened sum months back…
