The difference was that at least in those elections I saw competition, not one but two at least and sometimes even more than two candidates competing for one position.

In TIP elections, one seat one candidate, where is the thrill. Helloooo!!! Only 3 people out of 278 were interested in elections?? Where were the rest?? Not even least bothered or majra kuch aur tha, ya ander he koi setting karli gae thi??? Whatever it was, all we first years saw was tension, thrill, excitement, happiness and drama.

For the candidates competing, unopposed it was an obvious win for them. Well we can see students at TIP are pretty much inspired by the ways of Pakistani Government, as planned elections 2010.

Last but not the least, I congratulate all the winners and hope to see a change under their Hakumat J Best of luck!!!

Congratulating Three newly elected TISF officials:

Well! It is nothing new to all of you ladies and gentlemen that how failure TISF has been in the past year to entertain students of TIP. Last year I attended four events done by TISF:

1) Freshmen Gala
2) Carnival
3) Fun festival
4) Concert

All of the events were to some extent unorganized, controversial, boring and dull. Let’s take an example of Freshman Gala, it was much unorganized, guitars were not working properly, sometimes voice was not coming out of the microphone. Same thing happened with Carnival, there were no harmony and no unity. It was like as if everybody was celebrating their own carnival. Then comes the fun festival but was it actually fun festival or valentine? The biggest controversial event of the year 2009 was concert. If I had any idea about the free tickets thing, I would have never even bothered to come. Such type of discrimination was practiced by TISF. They charged me and many other students Rs.100 but at the same time many students came in the concert for free because suddenly it was decided that those who bring their friend or relative would be granted a free entrance. Why? Were they so special? What about people who couldn’t bring anyone on such short notice. I deliberately avoided annual dinner because I knew who failure it would be. And guess what? I was right, my friends left the annual dinner immediately.Others complained about mosquitoes and mismanagement.

If a forum can’t entertain and practice fairly then what is the point of having elections or what is the point of having this forum in the first place. Why do they take such a huge budget and waste it without even thinking. Even today every single student says that not a single event was entertaining and enjoyable. TISF has a very huge budget and I seriously think that this budget is wasted on events nobody cares about. Let’s bring something new TISF! We elect you to entertain us not to bore us to death. In the end I would strongly recommend TISF to try something fresh and latest this time, if they cannot then I am afraid to say that do not waste so much amount of precious money, give to Sooch school, at least it would be beneficial to someone. Thank you.

The election are going to be announced very soon, but did we ever bothered to know that why do we have elections for TISF, why not let societies work independently, why do we have a TISF president, a general secretary and a finance secretary. and why do we have this TISF, whats the whole concept behind it.

Anyone, do you have an answer???

Well let me explain, I was a part a part of it last year elected as a publication secretary, can you imagine a person being elected to become an editor-in-chief for a university magazine and voted by a bunch of people who don’t have any idea what publication is?? I really hate myself for this. Coming back to the point, last year there was a transport fee issue in fall semester, every student was standing hand in hand on that issue and finally the students had a victory. I can bet if the TISF would have tried to initiate it or get involve in that matter nothing would have happend?? Shocked, why would that be if the sole purpose of it is to address these kind of issues, hope that someday TISF elected board would realize what their responsibilities are (not organizing event, its not even in a single elected member’s job description and I hope they would have read their job descriptions as well).

Why would it be, that if TISF would have addressed that issue it would not have been solved?? Two reasons; first, most of the students had issues with few elected members, it would have help politicize the issue and second; if TISF had tried to do that, an application, and a reply, and another application, and a reply and another application and semester gets over everyones goes home, problem solved.

The main purpose that elections are held between the students at TIP is actually to divide them in such a way that on every issue raised by the students, a conflict arises within the student due to that political election atmosphere and no proper action is taken and the top management enforces their issue without facing any resistance.

This year we have a new strategy given by Mr P. We have a committee comprising of three faculty members and one elected student member, God knows who will hear to the student issues. We had a problems with one now we have three to deal with.

Another thing that has not been decided for years and not decided yet, what is the selection criteria for the post of president, general secretary and finance secretary for member of TTCC, chairperson of TTCC (just because he had done this in past, no evaluation was it good or bad, should it be done with past elected members).

Whats the job description for elected members (president, general secretary and finance secretary or are they just event managers), TTCC members and TTCC chairperson.

Is this committee there to facilitate or administrate that this event can happen and this cannot because recently a proposal for Declamation contest was rejected by TTCC chairperson that TISF slot is not available without any reason and were told to do their event on Thursday and another occasion a group of students from KU were willing to do a drama at TIP for their flood relief campaign and were trying to reach TIP dramatics society but the society was told that its for committee to decide that what to do and what not to you cannot have this event.

Have lot of more to share but I believe this is enough for students to know that why events are not happening at Textile Institute of Pakistan. Its not the societies, its committee and its chair not letting things happen.

This year we are about to enter the election phase again, where we’ll be having that same old dirty politics, ruining of friendships, and many other negative after effects as usual. I don’t know how important my advice is gonna be, and how seriously the student body of TIP will take it. But, there is a fault in the system and it needs to be look into seriously, we need a change and change that would rather bring us closer, despite dividing us into pieces.

Last year, I saw people losing friends because of this election s***. and I think we need to re-unite and if on small scale like within 300 students we can’t bring unity, then we surely are becoming a failed state.

Two people opposing each other and creating divides or those to working together and come up with something constructive because at the end of the day, both of them have same plans. Just think about it…

Finally; it’s over! With not much of people competing this year the elections seemed to be boring but still, it brought T.I.P back to life. TISF Elections 09, with lots of money wasted and all its dirty politics have finally com to an end. The new members with same old promises got elected and with that same old hope people voted them for a change. With the 94% of votes casted this year, six new TISF board members got elected out of which three were unopposed and just needed 51% votes to get elected. Contrary to last year; this year we also had a Publication Secretary.

The new TISF board members are:
Adnan Malik – President
Sikandar Hussain Gillani – General Secretary
Khurram Hussain – Financial Secretary
Muhammad Mohsin Butt – Publication Secretary
Shahbaz Mohammad – Activity Secretary
Talha Farooqui – Campus Development Secretary

A very special thanks to Dr. Zubair as it was only due to some of his strict actions that the ratio of “khappa’s” comparing from last year was very little and the best part in these elections was that there was no division of class fellows. In the end, I would just like to say, for those who didn’t win it’s not the end. The manifesto that we gave was the same, just the words used were different, so let us join our hands and work together for the best thing possible.
