“TIP was my first job. I’ve served TIP for over a decade, and this is what they do to me. I’m literally being pushed out of the gates”, said one victim before breaking into tears.

A number of the diligent employees who lost their job had been serving TIP since its inception, while most had been rendering valuable services to the institute’s management and upkeep for over past 5 years.

According to reliable sources, majority of the employees who have been terminated under the pretext of ‘cost cutting’ were in the petty salary range of Rs.7,000 to 15,000 per month.

It has also been reported that none of the TIP employees have received any form of increment in the past two years. Despite this, the governing board which consists of some of the most well-known and successful names from Pakistan’s textile industry and elite circles, found it appropriate to start sacking employees to compensate their questionable organizational planning and management competence.

In an anonymous survey conducted within TIP during the past two days, the following comments were received from furious students and unmotivated employees:

Mera bas chaley tau is pooray board ko jail mai band karwadoon.

Ek mohtaram, apna itna bara F*r**q textile mill band karwa kar ab TIP ko band karwaney par tuley hain.

These elitist frauds in the board should be ashamed of themselves. They teach the students in management and HRM courses that layoff is not the way to make an organization in financial crisis recover, better planning is.

How come the sleeping management doesn’t fire people who sell TIP’s assets to buy luxuries without permission?

Mustafa bhai [faculty peon] had tears in his eyes. I could not look him in the eye.

As TIP heads towards the end of a terrible year, several controversial questions and ironies need to be addressed. For instance, how can a non-profit organization which has been systematically brought to the brink of collapse and finds temporary sustainability by disposing off employees afford an expensive president whose salary level matches that of the corporate world? Similarly, many questions have been raised about the justification and competence of some of the lavishly paid new appointments by TIP salary standards in the admissions and short courses division.

Indeed, these sentiments are heartfelt and must not be ignored how ever displeasing they may appear to top most tier that governs TIP and their well wishers. This is the voice of TIP.

Recently, MJ has done some new value addition the Cafeteria’s washrooms; liquid soap dispensers. Not that bar soaps are bad, but this probably sounds nicer (and more luxurious). Unfortunately, if you look around, you’ll see something more important missing in the campus. Yup! You got it rite, our mascot, the Goose! All of TIP’s pets, the geese, (leaving behind only four,) have been sold to buy these unnecessary liquid soap dispensers.

Is washing greasy hands with liquid soap in the Cafeteria more important having our beloved mascots frolicking across the campus grounds giving immense pleasure to students, faculty and guests?  On behalf of protesting students, I request TIP’s higher management to look into this serious matter. For a person who can sell the institute’s asset without any approval from the stakeholders, it may not be a wise decision to give charge of the entire fund of the student body for TISF activities. Can we trust him??

Reasonable prices, good and healthy food, drinks available all the time and most importantly the new ICE COOL spot, where for the first time you can enjoy ice-cream at TIP and the new gola ganda stall i haven’t tried it yet but it seem to be good and the unlimited clod drinks finally.

Last but not the least LCD has been sent for repairs and will be soon back and on its place and hopefully we’ll be enjoying Abdul Razzak’s play while having lunch. Hats off for Ms Rakhshanda and Sir Mazhar.

Anyone, do you have an answer???

Well let me explain, I was a part a part of it last year elected as a publication secretary, can you imagine a person being elected to become an editor-in-chief for a university magazine and voted by a bunch of people who don’t have any idea what publication is?? I really hate myself for this. Coming back to the point, last year there was a transport fee issue in fall semester, every student was standing hand in hand on that issue and finally the students had a victory. I can bet if the TISF would have tried to initiate it or get involve in that matter nothing would have happend?? Shocked, why would that be if the sole purpose of it is to address these kind of issues, hope that someday TISF elected board would realize what their responsibilities are (not organizing event, its not even in a single elected member’s job description and I hope they would have read their job descriptions as well).

Why would it be, that if TISF would have addressed that issue it would not have been solved?? Two reasons; first, most of the students had issues with few elected members, it would have help politicize the issue and second; if TISF had tried to do that, an application, and a reply, and another application, and a reply and another application and semester gets over everyones goes home, problem solved.

The main purpose that elections are held between the students at TIP is actually to divide them in such a way that on every issue raised by the students, a conflict arises within the student due to that political election atmosphere and no proper action is taken and the top management enforces their issue without facing any resistance.

This year we have a new strategy given by Mr P. We have a committee comprising of three faculty members and one elected student member, God knows who will hear to the student issues. We had a problems with one now we have three to deal with.

Another thing that has not been decided for years and not decided yet, what is the selection criteria for the post of president, general secretary and finance secretary for member of TTCC, chairperson of TTCC (just because he had done this in past, no evaluation was it good or bad, should it be done with past elected members).

Whats the job description for elected members (president, general secretary and finance secretary or are they just event managers), TTCC members and TTCC chairperson.

Is this committee there to facilitate or administrate that this event can happen and this cannot because recently a proposal for Declamation contest was rejected by TTCC chairperson that TISF slot is not available without any reason and were told to do their event on Thursday and another occasion a group of students from KU were willing to do a drama at TIP for their flood relief campaign and were trying to reach TIP dramatics society but the society was told that its for committee to decide that what to do and what not to you cannot have this event.

Have lot of more to share but I believe this is enough for students to know that why events are not happening at Textile Institute of Pakistan. Its not the societies, its committee and its chair not letting things happen.
