FRESHIES TALK! The opinions of the class of 21′

The following article was submitted by a 1st year TDT-1A student, Khuban Khan. Here’s to hoping that more first year students take inspiration from this and help bring quackonline back to life.

Let me tell you something the hype about university is REAL. We work towards certain goals and try to get adequate grades just so we could end up in the university of our dreams and we think it will all be easy after that because * aik baar uni agaye phr tou degree lekar hi nkilen gay * but that’s not the case at all in fact it’s only going to get tougher from now. (Not to mention the pressure of joining the societies which are more than the actual number of students at TIP). But our freshmen are yet to experience all that the university life has to offer and have some pretty interesting things to say after their two week journey at TIP.

“My experience at TIP has been better than I expected. The friendly environment, the artistic architecture and the peaceful vibe all add to the great amount of experience we are having and will cherish when we graduate.
HAMMAD NAJAM
TDT-1B

NOTE: If you haven’t seen hammad’s illustrations then you are missing out and while you are at it just ask him why didn’t he choose fashion over textile.

“TIP to be very honest feels like home. At first I was scared of the new change since I came from Islamabad but now it seems like I have known this place for a very long time. In short Tip is the best thing that’s ever happened to me”
* JUST WAIT FOR THOSE ENDLESS WEAVING NIGHTS *
MAHEEN SARWAR
TDT-1B

“It’s been over a week since the day I first came here. I remember being very nervous but in a short span of time I have started to settle in and have became very familiar with the campus and the seniors, we are interacting with them without any hesitation primarily because of the *CENSORED WORD* we went through. I have made friends for life and looking forward to all the challenges ahead”

*Usama definitely needs to know what *CENSORED WORD* is and since its BANNED at TIP he must be talking about what our seniors call… ‘the intro’ *

M USAMA

“Well obviously studying at TIP is tough and challenging but that’s just one side of the coin but if you flip it over its pretty amazing at the same time. You meet new people who are all different from one another with intriguing personalities and who make university life worthwhile. The campus is amazing and the faculty is unmatched”
NAFAY
AMM

“What I like the most about TIP is the fact that it has people coming from different backgrounds being good at different things and having goals of their own. I look forward to not only learning from them but also creating an environment for myself and others which feel like home”
HUZAIFA
TDT 1A

“My experience at TIP has been interesting as I came here not because of my personal interest but because someone recommended me but its turning out to be great and suiting me well”
SAFI IKRAM
AMM

“I like almost everything about TIP but the most important and appreciable thing is that in our campus smoking is strictly banned ehm ehm which contributes to a healthy environment”
AHSAN MASOOD
TS

“I came to TIP because a friend suggested me to. The campus is definitely the highlight for mw with every possible facility available, but on the downside it’s really far from my residence and the travelling drains most of my energy. I hope to get used to the routine IA having said that the seniors and the faculty are very co corporative and friendly and made us feel welcome I am looking forward to my 4 year journey at TIP.
SYED M AHMED
TS

“Since I was a med student I never wanted to anything except something related to science. I wasted a year over this and finally after being forced by my parents. I put my creative skills to use and appeared in the test of TIP after getting recommendations from a number of people and I am so glad I did. Textile design is so fun and the perfect discipline to explore my aesthetic abilities.

MARIA TDT 1B

Kudos to her for stepping out of her comfort zone and trying out something new as that requires quite a lot of courage.

A semester in review.

Well this was one ‘hell’ *pun intended* of a semester wasn’t it?

With the number of students being higher than EVER, the TISF being more active than we’ve seen in the past, the societies making an effort to come back to life and people actually representing tip and winning things, this semester was ALOT more ‘happening’ than the previous ones to say the least.

First and foremost, the night stay ban is still there after a whole semester and no one is really happy about that. Why? Refer to the previous article for that.

The intriguing part was seeing whether TISF performs or not and it would be safe to say that they did not disappoint.

Starting with sports, ALOT of teams went to NUST Olympiad representing TIP, Although they couldn’t win, ATLEAST we had some kind of representation so that’s a good thing. The overall sports section of TIP seems to be getting better with the new table tennis tables and sports equipment, we can see random people playing cricket at random times or girls playing throwball which is comforting,  considering that for the past two years the only sports people were ever seen playing wns… cards. sometimes table tennis and badminton. so we’re doing pretty good here.

Some more representation came when for the first time in recent memory TIP was officially represented by a delegation in a (kind of an) MUN, and after that TIPs team won the second prize in an inter-University ‘presentation’ competition (MEGA 8) held and hosted by Bahria University so kudos to that too.

Overall we had 6 ‘events’ which included:

  1. Freshies and sports night at the same time.
  2. The Halloween night: Had great reviews overall and the arrangements were above average.
  3. A musical evening where Shehryar Shareef (4th year) performed.
  4. The bake sale which was organized independently by a group of students, which ended up being ALOT more fun than anyone expected and ultimately was successful.
  5. and funky Friday by paintoos.

Speaking of Paintoos, they tried to come back to life and did so with TIPs very own mannequin challenge that got around 15k views on Facebook. That was pretty amazing.

And last but definitely not the least was the beach party. after the rumors kept going for almost a month we were finally given an event in the form of beach party AFTER our papers.

Sure there were some issues with the transport which stopped it from being perfect. It was the kind of event where you’d feel sorry for the ones who missed it and it truly ended the semester with a bang.

If there was anything wrong with it, it was the fact that it ended 15 minutes before the clock even struck 10, the ones who arrived late due to transport issues would have certainly appreciated a little bit more time to completely enjoy the atmosphere.

‘City wale’ need hostel too.

Heres an interesting fact for the freshies.
In the good old days(by good old days I mean up until the last semester) anyone could stay at the hostel temporarily and that was and always has been such an important part of our student life. But off course the poor freshies wouldn’t know that because of the cursed B.A.N.

Why on earth was this ban imposed you must be wondering?
Well, It’s a weird thing thag CAN be posted here but ill prefer not to. Ask anyone in TIP, they’ll know what it was and you’re guaranteed to have an awkward conversation.

Anyways Coming to the point, the temporary hostel stay always always has been one of the charms of TIP life. Whether You have a group assignment or presentation to do, got an hourly or an important quiz to prepare for or you’re a TDT student falling behind on the weaving. The solution used to be simple. stay at hostel a day and Tadaa! Problem solved. and it even came with the extra perk of sitting back in smoking area at the time of sunset, relaxing, having a peaceful cup of chaye and just enjoying the away-from-the-city peace for a moment.

But then ‘IT’ happened. The management found out whatever they found * we all know what it was*. Decided to punish the rest of 398 students for the actions of 2 of them because that perfectly makes SOO MUCH sense right? *Might’ve been more than 2 depending on their preference iykwim*

Now it’s been a semester and god knows how tough it has been. Whenever we have a hostellite in a group assignment, the group co-ordination becomes impossible resulting in even worse marks than you’d normally get. Even for design students. With the workload from all the courses they could relax about weaving to a certain degree because all they had to do is stay for a day and complete it. but they can’t do it anymore because of the absolutely brilliant step of banning night stays for day scholars.

Now if you look at this situation from an outsiders perspective. This would STILL look like a very unreasonable ban taking away such an important part of campus life from students and for something about which you can’t even be 100% sure that it even DID happen.

The Water situation.

Have you ever seen those huge lizard looking creatures in TIP? They’re a prominent part of TIPs wildlife which btw also includes snakes, scorpions, atleast a dozen types of weird looking bees and the list goes on.

Anyways the point was, the aforementioned giant lizard creatures *called a goo or something in urdu* well one of them was found dead in a water tanker according to our sources.

And co incidentally at the same time, a lot of students, mostly the ones from hostel but some day scholars as well have been facing SEVERE diarrhea and everyone, aware of the situation aren’t even thinking about drinking water from the water coolers these days. Everyone is either bringing their own water or buying mineral water bottles from cafe a Continue reading “The Water situation.”

Types of people you will find in TIP, during Elections.

#TISFElections2k16 #TheHypeIsReal

So, Elections eh? That’s probably all you’ve been hearing for DAYS , every other person is talking about elections and they’re being discussed on every table. And I, as usual have been doing some observing the way people act during elections. I have very carefully classified them into different groups. Before going any further I have to say, although I won’t be taking any names this one is probably going to offend some people soo yeah, take it all with a grain of salt.

The chauray

These are a very commonly found species in TIP, every other person here, is basically a chaura.. It’s like we have a never ending Olympiad of being chaura going on where every other person, little or big, black or white, junior or senior, students or even some of the management and faculty *please don’t get offended* will be giving epic displays of the said chaurapan. but when it comes to election, you can identify them easily as they will be will be laughing, making fun of the opposition panel/candidate, passing sarcastic remarks and acting like they’ve won the elections already.

The Diplomats

These are the ones who will reassure literally every other panel how ‘pakka‘ their vote is, but will vote for someone else when the time comes.

The Zabardasti ke siyasat Dan.

These are the overly efficient supposed ‘visionaries’ who will somehow link literally EVERY other thing with some kind of a political move. Two people are randomly found talking to each other? *iss may zarur koi siyasat hy* you’re meeting with the opposite panel in a friendly manner *iss may bi siyasat hy* you’re trying to drink water? *siyasat hy* Cafe ke khanay main namak kam hy? *siyasat hy* you’re constipated? *siyasat* your uncle’s 2nd cousins daughter is getting married? *still siyasat*, so yeah.

The ones who love gossip

These are the people observing everything from the sidelines, never pledging allegiance to anyone. These people just want to know WHAT is going on and where so that they can discuss it. These are also a bit dangerous considering the fact that they somehow almost always know pretty much everything.

The ‘phuppos’

Just like chauray, Phuppos are also found in abundance here at TIP, basically all phuppos do is, hear stuff and create rumours and make friends and groups fight amongst themselves. Phuppos are BAD.. don’t be a phuppo.

The brainwashers Beware of these. They will be sweet they will smile at you, they will charm their way through stuff, they’ll say exactly what you want to hear and they will make the other panel sound like a bunch of villains so yeah. Don’t be brainwashed.

The ones who know nothing.

These people don’t care who wins and who loses because they don’t care about TISF which ultimately means they don’t give a damn about TIP. Be a chaura or a phuppo or anything just don’t be one of these lifeless bunch and DO NOT waste your vote, that is literally the worst thing you can possibly do right now.

Coming soon: The games.

The games are about to begin.  *suspenseful music in the background*

You have probably been noticing some weird things lately in TIP and we all know what it is.

No, I’m absolutely not talking about the OH-SO-AMAZING batch of juniors we’ve had this time, frankly I think it’s VERY rude that you actually thought I was talking about them, I’m not talking about the infamous hostel ghost stories,  neither am I talking about some of the ‘GROWN UPS’ we have at our Institute who are getting weirder looking by day, anyways back to the point, yes! The weird thing.

I’m talking about the fact that everyone is being so nice to each other these days, people who don’t normally talk to each other will be found sitting together, and doing..  things together. people who might have even been rude to you at some point are now probably not being so rude. So what is it, you must have have wondered and most probably already know the answer, but just for the sake of drama let’s do it MY way.

So what is up with everyone?  Has humanity finally decided to have some humanity?  Has the government made new laws against being rude?  Is everyone smoking some really good stuff and getting high alot these days, thus the niceness? Or Is it a world created by your imagination and nothing is real?

The answer is, NONE OF THE ABOVE, its just that the TISF ELECTIONS 2K16, the Game of thrones, the TIPs version of demolition derby, where many go in, but only the strongest come out alive, is about to start.

The most exciting time of the year when everyone gets to feel important, is here and Boy oh boy is it going to be sweet. Fresh Rumours are coming in every day and these elections might just shaping up to be one of the best, most competitive ones we’ve had in recent memory, panels are going to be complicated this time, on one hand there is a strong chance that we might get to see more than two candidates for certain posts and some may even be thinking about rolling the dice once AGAIN, and on the other there are some dark horses in the race, some candidates that upon hearing your immediate response will be “that guy?  Seriously who is gonna vote for him??” , and some horses who are telling everyone they’re not interested in the race but anyone with a functioning brain can see, they WILL be a part of it.

This will be all for now, but this is just one of the many posts to come regarding the elections , so yeah buckle up! because this is going to be a VERY fun ride.
