Heres an interesting fact for the freshies.
In the good old days(by good old days I mean up until the last semester) anyone could stay at the hostel temporarily and that was and always has been such an important part of our student life. But off course the poor freshies wouldn’t know that because of the cursed B.A.N.
Why on earth was this ban imposed you must be wondering?
Well, It’s a weird thing thag CAN be posted here but ill prefer not to. Ask anyone in TIP, they’ll know what it was and you’re guaranteed to have an awkward conversation.
Anyways Coming to the point, the temporary hostel stay always always has been one of the charms of TIP life. Whether You have a group assignment or presentation to do, got an hourly or an important quiz to prepare for or you’re a TDT student falling behind on the weaving. The solution used to be simple. stay at hostel a day and Tadaa! Problem solved. and it even came with the extra perk of sitting back in smoking area at the time of sunset, relaxing, having a peaceful cup of chaye and just enjoying the away-from-the-city peace for a moment.
But then ‘IT’ happened. The management found out whatever they found * we all know what it was*. Decided to punish the rest of 398 students for the actions of 2 of them because that perfectly makes SOO MUCH sense right? *Might’ve been more than 2 depending on their preference iykwim*
Now it’s been a semester and god knows how tough it has been. Whenever we have a hostellite in a group assignment, the group co-ordination becomes impossible resulting in even worse marks than you’d normally get. Even for design students. With the workload from all the courses they could relax about weaving to a certain degree because all they had to do is stay for a day and complete it. but they can’t do it anymore because of the absolutely brilliant step of banning night stays for day scholars.
Now if you look at this situation from an outsiders perspective. This would STILL look like a very unreasonable ban taking away such an important part of campus life from students and for something about which you can’t even be 100% sure that it even DID happen.
Have you ever seen those huge lizard looking creatures in TIP? They’re a prominent part of TIPs wildlife which btw also includes snakes, scorpions, atleast a dozen types of weird looking bees and the list goes on.
Anyways the point was, the aforementioned giant lizard creatures *called a goo or something in urdu* well one of them was found dead in a water tanker according to our sources.
And co incidentally at the same time, a lot of students, mostly the ones from hostel but some day scholars as well have been facing SEVERE diarrhea and everyone, aware of the situation aren’t even thinking about drinking water from the water coolers these days. Everyone is either bringing their own water or buying mineral water bottles from cafe a Continue reading “The Water situation.”
An article about hostelites, that hostelites will most probably not get to read.
I recently had a chance to stay at the hostel for a night and came across some major complains from the hostelites so I thought, what the hell ! let’s write about it.
Among a dozen of daily life problems, The Internet is probably the biggest one they have right now. Our campus has WiFi ‘Internet’ everywhere *or so they say*, but the situation is way more difficult for hostilities than you may think.
Apparently the Internet goes down quite often for some reason, it happens after almost every day or two, And surprise surprise! they don’t have anyone taking care of that so the ‘inmates’ are left to run the WiFi of the ‘asylum’, Mohammad Awais of Amm2 knows a little about the Internet stuff,therefore whenever it goes down everyone at the hostel turn to him for help, he walks all the way from hostel to the main gate of TIP to get a guard who’d then open the door of academic block for him, he then goes upstairs to fix the Internet and then finally goes back to hostel, the whole process takes an hour or two atleast, it’s not even his job but he has to do it because obviously, there isn’t another way. Anyways the other day he went to the main gate and the guards said they can’t open the campus area for him since they get scolded by the admin manager for opening it without permission, extremely upset over this situation he stated, and I quote;
‘Mera kaam bi nai hy tab bi karta hoon, yahan pagal nai baithe hain ham, khud to banda hire nai kia hua koi, ham Apni madad aap karain to usmay bi maslay, ye sab khud yahan ruk ke dekhain do Din in ko Pata chalay ga ham kaise reh rahe hain ‘
I stayed there for a day and either the Internet didn’t work at all and even if it did work I assure you my grandmother could probably run faster than our Internet and I am not even being funny here. Now on to the most obvious replies you will get from some of the people responsible for this, the evergreen justification of ‘excessive downloading’ and too much devices being used *because apparently the 20th century still hasn’t ended here *, which always worked but it won’t anymore since the daily data for all devices is monitored and if it exceeds the limit the device gets blocked. Now it may sound like I’m talking about a military Academy Here but I really am not. It’s TIPs awesome hostel ladies and gentlemen.
Our dear friend Mairaj Bin Waqar from TS3 passed away yesterday, September 26, ’08 (26 Ramadan, 1429 A.H.) leaving behind only memories of his goodness, warmth, humility, and all the times he brought smiles on our faces.
He was traveling home to spend the end of Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr holidays with his parents in Lahore when he met a tragic accident on board his train. Shaikh Adil Fareed and Awab Ahmed were some of his friends traveling with him. Attempts were made to quickly transport him to a nearby hospital but he gave in to his injuries and died on the way.
We all pray to Allah to give his family and all his friend the courage to cope with his loss, and that he be granted eternal peace and tranquility on his heavenly abode.
