When it started, it was like nearly impossible to manage such huge event in just 5 days, but we still carried on with the plan. Despite all the hurdles and problems we faced, TISF with help of different organizing committees and with cooperation of whole student body made it a happening. Being a part of organizing committee was a whole new experience, a tough one but yet I learned a lot.

At about 6 pm the basant started, there were few kites in the sky, as the wind wasn’t favorable, but still we had people dancing on the beats of the DHOOL. About half an hour later, after the basant started, the STING hummer came in, with loads of free STING, how can you resist when getting something for free?? (Even I had 10… :p) people enjoyed free STING, kite flying (a few) and pervez bhai ki chat (how can I forget that) soon both the bands arrived, and as the day light ended the basant was almost over. People were anxious to get in the amphitheatre. Just after the band was done with their sound check, the announcements were made and people started entering the theatre.

As the concert started, first performance was by the ASHES, later when the KARAVAN came on the stage, they just rocked the show. People started shouting like hell and banging their heads on the beats and then those shouts of “Once more… Once more…” from the audience win over the band to sing till they were exhausted completely. The show was extremely good and was a big hit by team TISF.

In the end, I would again like to thank everyone, each and every member of organizing committee, and each student of TIP who really made it happening. Thank you everyone, and for those who were part of organizing committee will receive a certificate from TISF, please give your details to your respective TISF elected committee head.

Art is collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better.

– Andre Gide

It’s very true that when you create something of your own, you experience a feeling beyond amazement. A similar feeling was experienced on the 5th of March 2009, Thursday when a bunch of designers (tdt1 and tdt2) escorted by Sir Munawar Ali and Sir Shamoon Haider along with their families including their adorable daughters Khunsha and Aaliya, went to Sea View for sand sculpturing, which was an incredible experience.

We left from the city office around nine in the morning and the weather was pretty much in our favour at that time though.

Okay now talking about the laborious work that we poor souls did :p

First we made a circle of 100 feet in diameter so that we cud mark off the area for the sculptures. And then we had to dig out wet mud from places near the water and bring that mud and throw it in the circle, well it all sounds very easy when you write it down but believe me it felt like child labor.

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape.

– Pablo Picasso

We used spades and buckets and wat not to carry as much mud as we could, but we soon lost hope of collecting enough mud even if we dug all day, so our two smart peers, namely Komal of tdt2 and Muneeb of tdt1 went till the McDonalds area where the construction work was in progress and hired the crane wala for sometime so that he cud help us with the digging and pouring of the mud, clever na!!!
Once we had enough mud for the sculptures, we divided ourselves into groups and got to work. We used help from toy animals to make our sculptures, we made a lion head and a fish along with a man swimming, and later in the evening we made a sea horse face and the KU students made a human face.

The most dim-witted, funny and cute things happened when we were busy working, not to forget the Snake wala came along, and we got ourselves busy watching the snake dancing. And then there were Khunsha and Aaliya who were playing in the mud and making things out of their own endearing imagination and thoughts.

We all really worked hard to make the sculptures look quite perfect and I cant forget that we couldn’t get the ears of the lion right in place and were making, destroying, making, destroying it, and finally came to the conclusion that its alright doesn’t matter if its not perfect, we cant really make a flawless one either.

When we were done with the sculptures, our stomachs growled and we plead our teachers to go for a time out and let’s go grab something to eat. So we headed towards KFC and McDonalds, we didn’t had much choice so we settled for them anyway.
We refreshed ourselves and the washrooms were left in nothing but mud and dirt all over the place. So we stuffed our face and relaxed down a bit and then headed back to the sea. This time we were in no mood to work again so some of us just laid down and enjoyed the view, some of us who were brave enough to go inside the “pollutant- free” water dipped our feet regardless of all the things we had already heard and seen about the water at sea view.
We even collected some of the most astonishing sea shells with unbelievable patterns and colours.
All in all the experience was really remarkable, I could never forget it, besides the fact that I have a horrible tan and some of us were like, “mehnat ka yeh phaal mila ka mou hi kala hugaya!!!”

We all had some real solid fun, which really boosted our spirits, I would like to thank our design faculty for making this trip possible and being with us to help and encourage us.

Cheers to all =)

Just when the clock stuck four on the evening of Friday the 20th Feb. 2009 I realized that it was time for me to pour down all my sorrows and forget all the miseries of my life that has been bestowed on my poor weak shoulders. The party attended by 14 girls was totally amazing; we had a short but fun filled time with the atmosphere loaded with gossips, giggles, screams and witty looks.

“I was about half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty… you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are.” – J. D. Salinger

Every girl tries to find a comfort zone in another girl to let out how she feels about the most horrible and the most astonishing parts of her life.

We started off by relaxing down in the display area above the cafeteria and soon the movie “27 dresses” started off, about the movie. Well, it was cute but stupid in a way too. But we couldn’t get to finish the movie because we all got something better to do and that was….. (yeah go ahead make your guess) ! We talked and talked about all our cutest and appalling experiences that have made us all really proud of being ourselves no matter how much we think we have suffered and lost, yet we feel that we are better than thousands and are capable of making a difference.

By this time the place was surely surrounded by sounds of hearty laughs, with tears of joy in our eyes and we all were rolling with glee and mirth.

Just when it was getting warmer and more entertaining, it was time to get up for the dinner, but it was for the better of us since we were all getting pretty exhausted by just chuckling. Anyways, the Chinese aroma tickled our noses and we rushed downstairs to grab our trays of Chinese rice and chicken Shashlik…hmm yummy!!!

We ate, talked and took pictures and soon headed for the point at around 8 pm. To our great delight, the comfortable Clifton point awaited us or was it Defence. I don’t remember well it was cozy and comfy and that’s what mattered.

Through the journey we listened songs and had ice cream, well not any scrumptious one but at least we got to eat something sweet to satisfy our taste buds and we were happy about it.

To simply put it in words, the party was a time of complete craziness and wildness, but some narrow minded people think that becoming wild is to cross all limits and forget who you are and lose everything you have, well that’s not with us girls, we have our own way of having fun and making few hours very special and memorable ones.

I would really like to acknowledge the effort put in by TDT2 for arranging this event especially our sweet friend Komal Iqbal.

I would like to urge those who didn’t attend it to please be a part of things like this in the future, because life is short, so try to make the best of your time and have all the ecstasy that you ever wanted. We all will cherish these memories forever.

Cheers to all my gurls!!!

There is a legend, call it a campus legend or hostel myth, that once upon a time TIP was a fair place. The grass was greener, the tower taller, the blackboards green. Around campus everywhere there were foxes and squirrels and geese, oh my! The lake brimmed with fresh clear water, and in that water roosted many geese, cackling and crowing all day and all night. The students were, of course, smitten by this captivating environment, this enchanting campus, and spent many a listless hour by the lake, listening to the geese cackle and crow, while cackling and crowing, and dare I say, quacking, amongst themselves. The geese depended on the students to be fed. The students would procure bread specially from the canteen, making sure the geese only got the highest quality. They would then sit on the bridge and by the lake and the geese would come to them and get their daily bread while the students were captivated by the lights of UFO’s landing nearby and blazing red sunsets.

One day, in the midst of this serenity, disaster struck! The much loved caretaker — call him Haggard — left, and in came a new man, half man, half monster, and zero humanity! With him ushered in a new era, the grass went grey, the tower shrank, the blackboards turned white! And the water in the lake was changed, and with that the birds were politely asked to leave.

However, one thing survived. A tiny voice, a small presence, in yellow, red and blue. Usually neon, usually on the notice boards, and always ever-present. Through good times and bad, this tiny presence remained one constant. One constant to remind us of what has been. One constant that tells us what can be. One name captures its spirit, its essence. One name that harks back the time voices of the past, the potential of the future, to the sounds of the birds. That name is Quack!

And yes, there were also some ducks amongst those geese. Rabia Shah started the student newsletter along her class fellow Hassan and they called it Quack. The name has stayed. For more, see the About page on quackonline.net.

He was traveling home to spend the end of Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr holidays with his parents in Lahore when he met a tragic accident on board his train. Shaikh Adil Fareed and Awab Ahmed were some of his friends traveling with him. Attempts were made to quickly transport him to a nearby hospital but he gave in to his injuries and died on the way.

We all pray to Allah to give his family and all his friend the courage to cope with his loss, and that he be granted eternal peace and tranquility on his heavenly abode.

Mairaj, Kahan chala gaya yaar? We miss you.
