Not DC, they have failed years ago. I am talking about the Discipline Committee at Textile Institute of Pakistan, which is about to fail. The committee formed on the basis of the same ideology that of Pakistan’s army, when involved in internal affairs, suppress every voice when you have the power whether its right or wrong. I am very grateful to Dr. Zubair Bandukda, former president of Textile Institute of Paksitan, he left a year later I joined TIP. I still remember at our orientation when a student asked him about ragging, he said, “It’s banned here at TIP but we faced it and you have to face it. If it goes beyond the limit you have your choice to make”.

Few days back I heard that a complaint was logged against students and faculty members of the design department that senior students ragged them in presence of faculty and the faculty members were called by the academic coordinator that they fed the freshmen to the seniors to rag them. Where in fact senior students were ragged by the faculty members in front of the first year, that I would say was rather disrespecting them in front of the crowd gathered.

Other than that the first year student are fed so much about ragging and its strictness that they have started to misbehave with senior students. Respectfully I totally disagree with the new strategy of DC, posting banners through out the campus. The idea should be to control ragging not to motivate freshmen to disrespect senior students.

I request DC that please review your ban policy. I know its bad to rag but it has some positives as well. Singing a song in front of a crowd may be difficult but I did it in front of 20-30 students in cafeteria and the day I was standing in front of my class to do my Oral Communication presentation, I had all my fears washed out. It have some positives too.

Don’t push it too hard like past DC head use to do in previous years, let these freshers come out of their shell and get ragged for better and have an experience of a grad student. Yet if negatives are found take strict action against them but there shouldn’t be a strict ban on ragging. Ban will lead us to more negatives then betterment.

Every campus has to have one of these. Raised in Jersey City, Edison or any Indian populated city in America, these guys do their best to replicate the style of a black man. Don’t get me wrong, every brown man wishes he had certain characteristics of a black man. OK that’s a wrong statement. Every brown man wishes he had one characteristic – a black man’s certain possession; everything else regarding a black man he doesn’t give a shit about. For black men, life is a big trade off. You’re blessed with big things but you also got the po-po’s on your bum. Getting back to our point, there are way too many desi guys acting like thugs.

It’s simple to identify super thugs:

If someone tried to clone Usher and in the process accidentally mixed his genes with a brown person (or a camel), you will result in the creation of the Super Thug. Super Thugs will always be dressed like whoever is the most popular hip-hop artist at the present (50 cent, Jay-Z, Game, you get the drill).

You will see them in nothing but hoodies, sweatpants and funky colored jeans that you can only find “downtown”. No matter what city they live in, the place to buy these jeans will always be “downtown”. However, unlike Usher None of these guys will ever wear a pair of hoodie and pants made of suede. Why? Because suede gets ruined when it rains. And thugs don’t carry an Umbrella, ella, ella, a, a.

Super Thugs have a very common trait – they all wear Timberland (or Timbs’ as you young kids say it). You will rarely see these guys out of their Timbs’. These guys will show up to gym class in those shoes. Or maybe they’ve worn these shoes for so long that it has some how been glued to their feet. Even though several years ago Timbs’ were all Thugs would rock, now they have a lot more varitey with brands such as Lugz and several others.

So take a look around our institute, and im sure TIPians are thugs too. Being a thug tho isnt that hard, we find thugs in second year sciences to fourth year sciences.

By Waqas Bin Azhar, TMM 2

Ragging is a very old university culture, and it is still swinging with high pace. Most of us have very strange concepts about ragging that it is the interaction among the freshmen with the seniors. This so-called culture is sometimes a lot of fun, but when it goes in extreme, it turns into a HEART-QUAKE for the juniors. As for me, I am as much against ragging, as much as I am for it. Whatever the case, it should not be of a very high magnitude. So please, please, please, don’t rag the juniors in a harsh way!

We all got very scared when the sun of university rose for the very first time for us. We tried to drift here and there in pursuit of safety, which was anywhere away from our seniors.

So what exactly do we harass (rag) our juniors for? Just to carry on this culture? yeah! You can carry this on, as I mentioned earlier, if it is for the enjoyment of both, the juniors and the seniors. Then it wont be as bad a culture! But we do it for just the enjoyment, do we? We do this for the sake of revenge!

So please, for the sake of humanity, stop this ugly tradition of harming the freshmen; physically and psychologically! And what I think about the official action of our university regarding is to prevent cacophony among the freshmen and seniors.

Enough is enough. Just stop it. Once and for all!

The way of meeting
The way of chatting,

The way of fun, or
The way of stunning

The way of Interacting, or
The way of Disturbing

Some call it: Entertaining
Some call it: The way of Harming

Thou can call what thou want,
But we call it: Ragging
