TIP ranked number 8

According to the HEC ranking list of universities in Pakistan, the Textile Institute of Pakistan is ranked at number 8 out of some 56 universities. Not bad at all.

Though, some of the facts are hard to digest. For example, TIP is ranked number one in terms of facilities, higher than even the Aga Khan University which is slightly lower at number two. To further elaborate, when one looks in to the details, the student to computer ratio is claimed to be 1:1. Another is the ratio of Ph.D faculty, where we get the maximum score.

These discrepancies reflect on the value of the HEC rankings.

Update: A complete spreadsheet of the rankings is available online.

  1. The design dept. evaluation explicitly comes under art schools category. I believe Abid’s talking about the rank of the university on the whole, and not any one particular department.

Btw, I too am surprised, and I wonder what these people did to fool the HEC.

  2. nahi waisay…. u know… agar hum sab kahin aur hote lik… lets say AKU or CBM…. then im sure we’d still be complaining about teh facilities……. we dont know what crap there is and isnt in other places…….

  3. Well no. I don,t think too many students complain about the facilities. Rather, most are here because of them. However, the HEC rankings seem to be a bit of a sham.

Ah mean, would more could one ask for? A taller tower? A bigger windmill?!

  4. Well , first of all the rating is for the 2001-2004 period of time..
Besides i wonder why HEC placed less points under facilities provided at LUMS and GIKI as compared to that of TIP.. maybe it was something to do with the student ratio with the facilities.
And where else would they put our university if not Art / Design cateogy. We are not an Engineering university and neither a General university..so which category in that list ?

this way it can also come under business schools category since it offers more business degrees-amm and tmm. And then, TIP can always expand wchih i really hope they do.

As far as facilities are concerned, one could sure ask for better computer and internet facilities – and a better library where weekly magazines aren’t months old.
